A year ago, on Oct. 1, medical coding across the US changed from ICD-9 to ICD-10. This switchover, which significantly changed the way we document, record and bill patient encounters, required a system-wide effort, and the transition was made smoothly. Because of the huge changes to medical coding across the country, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) put in place a year-long grace period for providers working in the new codes, and it has continued to accept all Medicare claims as long as the ICD-10 code was from the right coding family.
In today’s digital age, Guthrie’s Information Services team helps keep us wired and connected, as well as making sure our data stays safe and secure. Please join Guthrie in celebrating this incredibly important “support” team during National Health IT Week, which runs from September 26-Sept. 30. Without their support, we would not be able to deliver our services across the region.
