Last Friday, July 29, a milestone was achieved when Guthrie performed its 100th successful Trans Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). The TAVR program began in August of 2014 when Guthrie Cardiology performed its first TAVR to replace a stenotic, or narrowed valve, with a new bioprosthetic valve without performing standard open heart surgery. At the inception of the program this was done by making an incision in the upper thigh to access the femoral artery, which the valve would travel through while the patient was under general anesthesia.

Each month, we are highlighting a key military date and featuring the story of a service member or veteran connected to Guthrie whose story relates to that date.
On August 1, 1907 the very first iteration of the US Air Force was formed as a division of the US Army by an act of Congress. This division would become a separate military branch in 1947, and has since become the largest of the world's air forces.
