Dr. Jasvantsinh J. Zala will retire on Oct. 31 after sixteen years of service as an anesthesiologist at Guthrie Corning Hospital. During his time there, Dr. Zala served on a number of committees including the anesthesia, ER, bylaws, and ethics committees. He also served as the Chief of Anesthesiology in Corning from 2005 - 2008. Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Zala.
The Wound Care Centers at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital and Guthrie Corning Hospital are getting ready for Diabetes Awareness Month by educating local physicians and patients about the treatment of potential or existing chronic wounds for people also suffering from diabetes.
Demolition is well underway at the site of the old Corning Hospital. After demolition is complete the site will be redeveloped by the new owners. Guthrie vacated the former facility in 2014 when the new Guthrie Corning Hospital was opened at 1 Guthrie Dr. in Corning.
Quarterly Values Celebrations will soon be held across Guthrie. The celebrations recognize achievements made across the system and honor staff who went the extra mile. Celebrations are scheduled for Nov. 3 at Guthrie Corning Hospital and in Sayre.

The annual Employee Benefit and Wellness Fairs kick off in just under two weeks. These fun events, to be held on the Guthrie Sayre campus on Wednesday, Oct. 5, and at Guthrie Corning Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 6 offer our employees an opportunity get their annual mandatory flu shots while also visiting with a number of vendors, including Fidelity, Highmark, our employee assistance provider eni, and local colleges.

Backpacks and other school supplies went to Winfield Elementary School in Corning, N.Y. for children in need. Great work to the team.

Guthrie hosted an event at the former Corning Hospital site on July 26 marking the beginning of the demolition of the hospital as it is made shovel-ready for its purchase by developers. The event featured speakers who shared their memories of the hospital. During the event, Guthrie Corning Hospital President, Garrett Hoover, presented a framed copy of the bronze plaque that will remain onsite with a memorial bench once the reconstruction is complete.
The Nuclear Medicine department at Guthrie Corning Hospital recently received a three year term of accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
