Meredith Bocek, a Certified Music Practitioner (CMP)® under the nationally accredited Music for Healing and Transition Program (MHTP)TM, has joined the Volunteer Services program at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital as a volunteer playing the harp for patients. The MHTP is an organization that trains and certifies musicians in the art and science of providing therapeutic music for body, mind, and spirit.

In order to accommodate the Guthrie Gala on Saturday, Sept. 10, parking changes will be enacted on the Sayre campus beginning on the evening of Friday, Sept. 9. At 9 p.m. on Friday, the A2 and A3 lots will be closed. On Saturday, North Atrium Drive will be closed from 12 – 1 p.m. During the Guthrie Gala, signage will be posted in the parking lot to direct patients and visitors where to park.
The next step in Guthrie’s project to install a co-generation system and power upgrade on the Sayre campus will begin in mid-September. Crews will continue work near the power plant beginning around Sept. 19. This work will cause the reclosure of the sidewalk from the Radiology Physicians Parking Lot that sits next to the Facilities Building up to the southwest corner of the Foundation Building for approximately six weeks.
A newly renovated area at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital is now open for interventional pain services.
This new space will allow for the expansion of Guthrie's interventional pain services in Towanda. Guthrie providers are now seeing patients for office visits and procedures on Wednesdays and Fridays. Guthrie’s interventional pain management program provides minimally invasive, non-surgical techniques and treatment options for patients with chronic pain.
The Radiology Technology Program is a full-time, two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program. It is a collaborative program with Mansfield University’s Department of Health Sciences. Students spend the first semester on the campus in Mansfield, Pa., and the remaining three semesters plus two summer sessions at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, where they complete classroom and clinical experience. Students rotate through CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Mammography, Radiation Therapy, Vascular Interventional Radiology and the OR.
Fall Sports Injuries – Management, Diagnoses & Prevention will be held Sept. 20 from 5 - 6 p.m. at Hotel Ithaca on Cayuga St. in Ithaca, N.Y. Guthrie’s Dr. Bruce Greene will go over the management, diagnoses and prevention of common sports injuries. This seminar is open to athletes, parents, and coaches and is free, although registration is required.
The Guthrie post-concussion support group for community members who have suffered a concussion will hold their first meeting of the school year on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. in the 4 Blue Conference Room located on the fourth floor of the Guthrie Medical Group in Sayre, Pa.
This is the seventh year that the group has offered support to athletes and their families, and has featured dozens of speakers who have shared their personal journeys of dealing with sports related post-concussion syndrome.
The skin team committee at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital works together to assist in proper skin care and prevention of pressure ulcers at the hospital. The committee also works on community projects together. This year they collect items such as school supplies, money, food, and or gently used clothing for a local school. The team collected a car load of school supplies ranging from notebooks to back packs with all the goodies in between like pens, pencils, crayons and markers. There was some clothing donated as well as $200.00 in cash.
