Please join Guthrie in celebrating this incredibly important “support” team during National Health IT Week, which runs from September 26-Sept. 30. Without their support, we would not be able to deliver our services across the region.
We are pleased to welcome Shane Raupers as the Director, Practice Administration for the departments of Urology, Pulmonary, Oral Surgery, General Surgery, and Trauma Surgery for the Guthrie Medical Group. Shane earned his Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University and joins us from the United States Army where he most recently served in the role of Executive Officer / Supervisor in Fort Drum, N.Y.
For the second year, the Mansfield University/ Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital senior nursing class participated in a service learning project at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier in Elmira, NY under the direction of Mansfield University nursing faculty members Professor Christine Varner, Dr. Ellen Reynolds, and Dr. Fred Farley. These students, enrolled in the community health nursing course, and their faculty spent the day at the Food Bank where they served as volunteers, sorting and repacking food and other donated items that are eventually distributed to those in need.
Starting Monday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m., a project will begin to replace the flooring at the 3rd level Sumner lobby, sitting area and hallway leading back to Medical Records. This area will be closed off and no through traffic will be permitted from 5:30 p.m. until the following morning. Please note, this means that you cannot exit the elevator or stairs at the level 3 Sumner lobby. Please exit at Level 2. Employees will still be able to access the shuttle pick-up/drop-off vestibule from the small set of stairs coming up from Level 2 to the shuttle pick-up/drop-off vestibule.
The Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary will be holding a dinner for their members on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the Patterson Auditorium. Auxiliary members will be there speaking about upcoming events they are organizing this year and how you can be a part. There will be music, food stations and fun! Sayre campus employees are welcome to attend this dinner at no cost if you have an interest in joining the Auxiliary. A new member special will be available that night. Please RSVP by Oct.
Distracted driving awareness month at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital and the Guthrie Sayre Campus is drawing to a close, but you still have time to pledge to drive distraction-free. Melissa Ross, Trauma Resource Nurse and Injury Prevention Coordinator, will be manning an information table and taking pledges outside the cafeteria during lunch time on random days for the remainder of the month. She will also be available in the Sumner Lobby from 3 - 6 p.m. on random days.
The annual Employee Benefit and Wellness Fairs kick off in just under two weeks. These fun events, to be held on the Guthrie Sayre campus on Wednesday, Oct. 5, and at Guthrie Corning Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 6 offer our employees an opportunity get their annual mandatory flu shots while also visiting with a number of vendors, including Fidelity, Highmark, our employee assistance provider eni, and local colleges.
This week, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital reopened 5 Main following the fire that took place in July. Many staff members and contractors were involved in helping to get the unit ready to welcome back patients. A special thanks goes out to the following teams for their efforts:
A group of staff members from Guthrie Corning Hospital ASU/PACU/Endoscopy Team and Jen Zimmerman from the Operating Room made a donation of supplies to a local elementary school. Backpacks and other school supplies went to Winfield Elementary School in Corning, N.Y. for children in need. Great work to the team.
