As part of their Silver Award Project, Girl Scouts in Troop 41227 donated two Adirondack chairs, five tied fleece blankets and one quilt to Sayre House of Hope. They also held food and household items drives at several locations in the valley. Their efforts have helped replenish House of Hope’s cupboards, and provided large amount of items for the baskets of toiletry items for the families that stay there.
This month, Guthrie hosted Mansfield University President Francis Hendricks '79 (Brig. Gen., USAF, retired), who met with Mansfield University’s Health Sciences majors at Guthrie’s Sayre Campus. Mansfield University and Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital work jointly to provide clinical and classroom instruction for students in the nursing, radiology technology and respiratory therapy programs.
The Guthrie Cardiac and Vascular Center held a luncheon on Sept. 25 in celebration of completing 100 successful transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures since the program began in Aug. 2014. All previous TAVR patients were invited to join the celebration as special guests. Former TAVR patient, Mildred Mansfield of Horseheads, N.Y., described her experience with TAVR saying, “It was a miracle. I turned 88 this month, and I didn’t expect to live to see it. Now I’m back on my feet living the active lifestyle I’m used to.

The Sayre Borough will consider changes to parking in the borough during the October meeting of the borough’s Public Safety Committee and Administration Committee. Proposed changes include replacing two-hundred parking meters that will limit parking times to thirty or ninety minutes, enforcement of metered spaces beginning at 8 a.m., and a cost increase to downtown meters. The borough will also consider adding permit parking to on street parking spaces in the vicinity of West Lockhart St, North Elmer Ave, and Hospital Place.
The new physician lounge on 4th level West Building at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital will be opening on Monday, Oct. 3. The new lounge is located adjacent to the A-Elevator Lobby near the double door entrance of the 4 West Observation and Interventional Radiology Suite. The lounge will be relocated from its current location to allow for development of procedural space including expansion for a new four bay prep and recovery unit open to the existing Surgery Prep unit. Construction will begin immediately in the vacated space to construct a new procedure room, prep and recovery unit.
Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary will host a candy sale in the cafeteria at the hospital on Friday, Oct. 14 from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. There will be a variety of chocolates and fudge available, and anyone who makes a purchase can get a chance to win a candy basket.
Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has been named a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association. This recognition means that the communities of the Twin Tiers now have access to nationally accredited stroke care.
