The Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) has granted Guthrie Troy Community Hospital a Level IV Trauma Center Accreditation, making it the only Critical Access Hospital in Pennsylvania to achieve this accreditation. The accreditation goes into effect on Nov. 1. Congratulations to all involved!
Guthrie Medical Group recently received the 2015 United Healthcare PATH Excellence in Patient Service Award. This award was in recognition of the quality of service Guthrie providers gave their patients in 2015. In recognition of its successful efforts with Medicare Advantage patients in particular, Guthrie also earned a quality incentive of over $300,000. Over the past year, Guthrie has successfully achieved the PATH programs performance metrics, with the majority being measured at a five star rating.
Last week Guthrie celebrated National Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week by recognizing food service workers at each of our four hospitals. Thank you to all the food and nutrition workers at Guthrie who work hard to keep patients and staff well-nourished and healthy!

Demolition is well underway at the site of the old Corning Hospital. After demolition is complete the site will be redeveloped by the new owners. Guthrie vacated the former facility in 2014 when the new Guthrie Corning Hospital was opened at 1 Guthrie Dr. in Corning.
On Oct. 9 nearly 100 guests joined the First Impressions Birthing Center for their annual remembrance walk at Guthrie’s Sayre campus. The event was open to individuals and families who have experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy or shortly after birth. Many families brought memorabilia of their loved one and shared their stories. After the walk, a ceremony was held by the pond, and attendees dropped roses in remembrance of their babies.
Quarterly Values Celebrations will soon be held across Guthrie. The celebrations recognize achievements made across the system and honor staff who went the extra mile. Celebrations are scheduled for Nov. 3 at Guthrie Corning Hospital and in Sayre.
Omnicell will host an educational event for nursing, pharmacy, IT, finance and medication safety staff members. It will be held in the Omnicell mobile demonstration truck, which will be parked on Guthrie’s Sayre Campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 18. The event will have pharmacy and nursing experts on-hand to answer questions. Stop in to see the latest medication and supply automation, IV robotics, and business analytics solutions to help clinicians deliver superior patient care.
Guthrie’s Dr. Rodrigo Samodal, a family medicine physician in Guthrie’s Big Flats and Watkins Glen practices, was awarded the Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). The degree was conferred on Dr. Samodal and more than 140 family physicians during a convocation Sept. 23, in conjunction with the AAFP's annual meeting in Orlando, Fla.
The Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Masquerade Jewelry sale will be held Oct. 20, 21 and 22 in the hospital lobby. All jewelry and accessories cost $5. Sale hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 20 and 21. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22. Cash, credit, and debit payments will be accepted.
