This is to help relieve a critical staffing demand that has been created by an increased average daily inpatient census at the hospital that has outstripped the supply of local nurses. In order to address the staffing demand, the HR Nursing Recruitment Team have been working with nurse managers to create a new plan that will help bring new nurses into the system and recognize the hard work put in by our teams.

The concept of wellness relates to many different aspects of a person's life. The wellness committee at Guthrie is working to learn more about employees' interest around many different areas of wellness. This month's focus is on spiritual wellness. Spiritual well-being is about our inner life and its relationship with the wider world. It includes our relationship with the environment, our relationships with others and with ourselves. Spiritual well-being does not just reflect religious belief, although for people of a religious faith it is obviously a central feature.
The annual Culture of Safety Survey is a tool that Guthrie uses to hear our employees’ perception of safety issues across the organization. You have until April 10 to participate. This survey helps to highlight areas where we can continue to improve the service we deliver Employees from all areas of Guthrie, both clinical and non-clinical, should take the survey. As in past years, Guthrie will hold its Summer Hire Program. This program is for seniors in high school through seniors in college. PeopleSoft will experience scheduled down time between 5 p.m. March 31 and 8 a.m. April 3 to install system upgrades. During this time, employees will not be able to access the system to view paychecks, make changes to their personal information, apply to open positions or access tax documents. Many of us don’t see the faces of those you help when you donate to the Provider and Employee Giving Campaign. That is about to change. Meet Allison Brookhart, she is the Lead Clinical Assistant in the Cancer Center. Everyday Allison comes to work and spends eight hours a day caring for some of our most vulnerable patients. Allison smiles at everyone and beams positive energy when she walks into a room. Just like so many of us, she hides her struggles behind that smile.
The American Heart Association Southern Tier Heart Walk will take place on Sunday, April 9 at SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton. A number of teams from Guthrie plan to participate. If you are interested in participating with your team or department, click here to visit the event page.
Please note, as per policy, that employees with a Paid Time Off (PTO) balance above the maximum allowed carryover as of the end of the last full pay period of the fiscal year (June 17, 2017) will have their PTO adjusted down to the maximum.
Guthrie will host Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day on Thursday, April 27 on the Sayre campus. Children of employees in grades 7-12 from all Guthrie locations may attend.
