Changes to the federal tax withholding tables are generally released in December, however, that was delayed this year due to the enactment of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.  The IRS released the new 2018 tax withholding tables Jan. 11, 2018.  Employers are required to begin using these new tables as soon as possible but no later than Feb. 15, 2018. Guthrie will be making the necessary system updates to the tax tables within the next week.  This change will be reflected in the pay check dated Feb. 1, 2018 for the monthly provider payroll and the pay check dated Feb.

Beginning Jan. 22, IT will be doubling its efforts to replace outdated Windows XP personal work computers. Throughout the project, monitors will be upgraded to 24” widescreens as needed. IT asks that employees aid in the efforts to replace these outdated machines by doing the following:

Guthrie has launched a new mandatory training on Workplace Harassment. This training has been assigned to every employee in Guthrie Learn to ensure we have a shared understanding of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. The training must be completed no later than March 12, 2018. Any employee failing to complete the training may be unscheduled for work after March 12.

The 2017-2018 HIPAA & Compliance Training, which is mandatory for all Guthrie employees, is available on Guthrie Learn. We ask that all employees complete this as soon as possible. The Guthrie Cardiac and Vascular Center is offering the Advances & Innovations in Cardiovascular Care symposium on Saturday, Feb. 17. This activity is approved for up to 5.75 AMA PRA Category I Credits.

This full-day conference for primary care providers and cardiologists will focus on practice guidelines and breakthroughs for cardiovascular diseases that are most relevant to the entire medical community: risk assessment, hyperlipidernias, hypertention, anti-platelet and anticoagulant therapy.

The IRS generally updates the Business Mileage Rate effective January 1 of each year. The IRS has announced that the standard mileage rate for business related travel effective Jan. 1, 2018 will increase to 54.5 cents per mile. Guthrie’s mileage reimbursement rate will match the IRS standard rate of 54.5 cents per mile. Please contact Michele Sisto in Finance at 570-887-4625  with any questions.
