Congratulations Donna Tyburczy, RN, research coordinator and Dr. Pramod Deshmukh, principal investigator, for being the first enrollment nationally in the Abbott His Bundle Pacing Registry research study.  Guthrie is the first health system in the United States to enroll a patient in this clinical trial for certain types of cardiac implants. The study will analyze data when devices are implanted as well as one month and six months post-implant. The goal is to analyze workflows related to these implants and create recommendations for caring for similar patients in the future.

Dates have been announced for the Stop the Bleed and the Free Community Family & Friends CPR classes in 2019. The Community Training Center at Guthrie offers multiple courses for employees, first responders and the public. The goal is to provide you with the training you need to do your job, help the community and save a life (even your own).

Guthrie’s Young Professionals Network is sponsoring a coat and sneaker drive for a local school. Please consider giving the gift of warmth this holiday season by donating a new or gently used coat or sneakers to a child in need. Donations will be accepted until Dec. 14, 2018. Unwrapped donations can be dropped off in the entrance of the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital cafeteria, Guthrie Clinic Administration (3rd floor Sumner) or a Regional Office.

The December Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Pillars of Excellence Award was presented to Mike Kranz, Pulmonary Rehab. According to one of his co-workers, “Often you can hear the laughter down the hall from Mike and his patients while he makes their workout and education a positive experience. Mike goes above and beyond on his patients’ graduation day. He provides a treat of their choice on this day. He has made brownies, strawberry shortcake with homemade biscuits and even provided a fruit tray for a patient’s wish.

Parking lot C2, off West Hayden Street in on the Guthrie Sayre Campus, will be partially closed for the construction on the new Cath Lab. An area of the lot will be blocked off late Sunday afternoon on Dec. 2 and will be closed for the entire day on Monday, Dec. 3. The south heliport will also be closed during this time. Thank you for your understanding.

Guthrie is pleased to announce its support of a new initiative to help those seeking treatment for substance abuse and addiction to eat healthier, understanding that proper nutrition will assist in successful recovery efforts.  Dutch’s Food Stand is located at CASA-Trinity and will provide healthy food to CASA-Trinity clients at risk for food insecurities. Food donations will come from individuals and businesses as well as local farm stands (in season).

Lori Barnett has been appointed to the position of President/COO, Guthrie Troy Community Hospital effective Dec. 2. Lori has been with Guthrie for fourteen years.  

In 2004, Lori joined Guthrie as an Operating Room Staff Nurse at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. She was promoted to Surgical Services Coordinator (RPH), Nurse Manager (TCH), Chief Nursing Officer (TCH) and most recently served as VP/COO/CNO at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital. Lori received her BSN and MSN at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.
