On August 1, 1907 the very first iteration of the US Air Force was formed as a division of the US Army by an act of Congress. This division would become a separate military branch in 1947, and has since become the largest of the world's air forces.

On Tuesday, August 2, staff are invited to attend a special lunchtime presentation hosted by the Guthrie Trauma team and a patient who had an amputation at Guthrie. Jeremiah Serfas lost part of his leg when an SUV swerved into his lane causing a head on collision while he rode a motorcycle. The presentation will focus on Jeremiah’s inspiring story of rehabilitation.

Corning Enterprises recently donated 200 NASCAR tickets to Guthrie for use by our employees or volunteers. As a result, Guthrie is raffling off 100 pairs of tickets to this year's NASCAR CHEEZ-IT 355 at The Glen, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 7. All employees and volunteers are eligible to enter. To enter, please fill out the online registration form by noon on Thursday, July 28, and the winners will be publicized in the announcements section of the intranet before the afternoon of Tuesday, Aug. 2.
We are pleased to welcome Karin Witt, MD as Chief Medical Officer/Regional Medical Director – Western Region. Dr. Witt is also an Associate in OB/GYN and will be seeing patients at Guthrie Corning Steuben. Dr. Witt joins Guthrie from Foundation Medical Partners in Nashua, N.H. She was also a member of the Clinical Faculty at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
A few weeks ago, we announced the arrival of new units for the safe and anonymous disposal of unused or expired medications in Sayre and Towanda. MedSafe® drug disposal units have been installed in the Clinic Pharmacy in Sayre and in the main lobby at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital. A unit is also soon to go into Guthrie Corning Hospital. They are available for the public to use during pharmacy hours.
