Volunteers and local businesses worked together this winter to treat patients and their caregivers to a hot lunch while they were at Guthrie Corning Hospital Cancer Center for treatment.
Soup for the Soul offers soup donated by local restaurants and served by volunteers each weekday at the hospital, beginning in November through the end of February. Patients and families were very appreciative of the program, especially since infusion times usually begin or end at lunchtime.
The Center of Distinction Award has been given to the Guthrie Centers for Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at Robert Packer Hospital, Corning Hospital and Cortland Medical Center by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. These Centers achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent, and a minimum wound healing rate of at least 91 percent within 30 median days to heal.
At any given moment, there is a patient at Guthrie in a different stage of their cancer journey. Those fighting cancer are often facing many different battles from medical to emotional or financial. These battles can take a significant toll on our patients who should be focusing on healing and finishing their fight against cancer.
In an effort to reduce waste and control costs within the Guthrie system, a Waste Extraction Team has been established and tasked with the goal of identifying and implementing $6 million in sustainable waste reduction strategies. Success in achieving this goal is dependent upon everyone’s involvement. Each month, the Waste Extraction Team will be posting a “Money Saving Monday” tip on Workplace.
There is now a form for employees to utilize when taking uniform items to an approved vendor to have the Guthrie Logo applied. This approval form must be signed by the employee’s supervisor prior to taking items to the vendor. As the uniform initiative expands, this form will give us a tool to track and trend.
The form is available on the Guthrie intranet here. We are having a “soft start” using the form for the next three weeks and it will become mandatory beginning April 1, 2019.
Guthrie is offering open interviews for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in the Human Resources Building.
These interviews offer LPNs the opportunity to meet with recruiters and hiring managers on-site, review current job openings, learn about the benefits package and fast track the employment process. Positions are available across the Guthrie system for full-time, part-time and per diem.
