Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has been named a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association. This recognition means that the communities of the Twin Tiers now have access to nationally accredited stroke care.
Dr. Brian Cassetta and his wife Christina recently attended the Suicide Prevention Center of New York annual awards banquet along with other members of the iMatter Foundation. iMatter is an organization that seeks to spread a message of hope, value and purpose to teens and young adults. It has a mission is to eradicate suicide, depression, and self-abuse by empowering hope, life and purpose in our culture.
We are pleased to announce Joseph Choi, MD, PhD as Chairman of Orthopaedics and Chief of the Musculoskeletal service line. Dr. Choi is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who has been with Guthrie since 2009 and has demonstrated his commitment to the Guthrie Orthopaedics team after years of dedicated service and leadership in the department. The Safety Circle at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital worked hard this past year, along with all the employees, to maintain the hospital as an OSHA VPP Star Site. VPP stands for Voluntary Protection Program, which is a partnership between business and OSHA. Benefits include a safer work place, reduced employee injuries, improved morale and employees involved in safety process. The Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is only one of eight hospitals in the United States to achieve this award. This is due to all employees’ contributions in helping to sustain our status as an OSHA VPP Star Site.
The DAISY Award is a national program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. The founders of the program use the award to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people. At Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, the DAISY is awarded quarterly.

Each year, Guthrie Medical Group Administration and the Rewards and Recognition Committee of the Guthrie Medical Group seek to recognize providers who epitomize the mission statement of Guthrie and the ideals of Dr. Donald Guthrie. Nominations for the Donald Guthrie Distinguished Provider Award are now being accepted. A provider can be nominated by another provider, an employee, or a patient or patient’s family.
The Nuclear Medicine department at Guthrie Corning Hospital recently received a three year term of accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
