Robert Philpott, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Guthrie Corning Hospital, has received the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM®) credential from the International Association of Emergency Managers. The CEM® Commission approved applicants who successfully completed an extensive credentials package, a management essay and a written examination. The credentials requirements include experience, references, education, training, and contributions to the profession. In honor of Veterans Day Nov. 11, Guthrie is collecting a "Tribute to the Troops" honoring employees or their family members who are serving or have served in the armed forces. This tribute will be posted on the announcements page on Guthrie’s Intranet as well as in Friday Facts on Nov. 11.
Last week’s Medical Grand Rounds held a presentation in support of Brest Cancer Awareness. Dr. M. Firdos Ziauddin, Guthrie Breast Surgeon gave a presentation on “The Impact of Systemic Agents on Locoregional Therapy of Breast Cancer”. In addition, The Office of Continuing Medical Education presented Certificates of Achievement to those who have a vested interest in promoting the lifelong learning process.
The Guthrie Medical Group held its Fifty-Second Annual Recognition Awards Banquet Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Best Western in Sayre. More than 260 employees were recognized for their years of service, ranging from five to 45 years. 24 employees who retired or will be retiring in 2016 were also recognized.

Roy Turner is the recipient of the 2016 Employee of the Year Award for Guthrie Corning Hospital presented at the Sixty-second Annual Service Awards Banquet. Roy works in the Emergency Department and has been with the hospital for 37 years. He received the award after numerous Shining Start awards from patients and their families. He was recognized for engaging each patient with kind, respectful, encouraging words and for keeping family members comfortable and informed. Roy makes each patient his number one priority and demonstrates unfailing compassion.
Dr. Jasvantsinh J. Zala will retire on Oct. 31 after sixteen years of service as an anesthesiologist at Guthrie Corning Hospital. During his time there, Dr. Zala served on a number of committees including the anesthesia, ER, bylaws, and ethics committees. He also served as the Chief of Anesthesiology in Corning from 2005 - 2008. Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Zala.
Michael Hildebrandt has accepted the position of Senior Director for the Cardiovascular Service Line. Mike has been working as the Manager of Non-Invasive Testing Services since 2011 and more recently has been serving as the interim Senior Director since July 2016. Congratulations to Mike on this new role.

The puzzle will be distributed throughout Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for staff to try to solve. If you return the puzzle to the department you may win a prize!
