We would like to welcome the latest class of Radiology Techs to Guthrie! The Radiology Technology Program is a full-time, two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program. It is a collaborative program with Mansfield University’s Department of Health Sciences. Students spend the first semester on the campus in Mansfield and the remaining three semesters plus two summer sessions at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, where they complete classroom and clinical experience.

The Guthrie Service Awards Dinner will be Wednesday, Feb. 1 in the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital cafeteria. At this event, Guthrie recognizes the employees that make our success possible each year.

Employees from Med Supply Depot, Guthrie Foundation, Home Health, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Guthrie Troy Community Hospital, Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital and The Guthrie Clinic celebrating milestones from 5 to 45 years of service during 2016 have received invitations.

Guthrie recently received the Employer of the Year award from the American Legion in Athens. In 2014, Guthrie established a dedicated Veterans Committee which has led several initiatives that help to recognize and support veterans. These include reviewing employment policies and practices and finding ways to reach out to veterans to make them more aware of the support available to them at Guthrie and through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Living Well with Diabetes program at Guthrie HealthWorks was recently recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) as a quality diabetes self-management education program. This recognition means the ADA believes that this program offers high-quality education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment.

We are pleased to announce that the Wound Care Center at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has received accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). The Guthrie Wound Care Centers use hyperbaric oxygen chambers to treat chronic wounds which are failing to heal.

The team on 5 Main at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has been recognized with the Safety Star Award by the Safety Circle. The award recognizes their quick response during the fire that occurred on that floor earlier this year. The team quickly transported all patients from the area and succeeded in getting the fire out quickly. They have continued to demonstrate teamwork in the months following the fire, through clean up and reopening of the unit. Congratulations to the team for this recognition and thank you for your hard work!

Dr. Joseph King will retire on Dec. 31 after forty years at Guthrie. Dr. King has the longest tenure of any current Guthrie physician.  He was born in Shang hai, China and attended medical school at SUNY Buffalo. Dr. King completed a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.  He came to Guthrie out of his Fellowship in 1976 and has spent his entire career at Guthrie in our Pathology Department. Guthrie Medical Group recognized him at the Quarterly Membership Meeting on December 7.

Congratulations to Josh Campbell for passing the Board Certification for Critical Care Pharmacy  (BCCCP) examination. Having Board Certification means that a pharmacist has achieved a high level of knowledge and expertise for their practice area. This will translate into better pharmaceutical care for our patients.
