Guthrie's Nurse-Family Partnership program is an evidence-based community health home visitation program that helps transform the lives of income eligible women pregnant with their first child.
Registered Nurses begin home visits early in the mother’s pregnancy and continue visitation until the child’s second birthday. These nurses provide free support, education and counseling on health, infant development and self-sufficiency topics. Mothers and children who have participated have consistently demonstrated significantly improved prenatal health, fewer subsequent pregnancies, increased maternal employment, improved child school readiness, reduced involvement in crime and less child abuse, neglect and injuries.
Nurse-Family Partnership is administered through Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital and has been serving first-time mothers across the region since 2007.
This video tells the story of Amanda, who participated in the program. Amanda was paired with an RN named Michelle who helped prepare her for her first pregnancy and motherhood.
