New Desktop Patching Process

Sep 11, 2020

The Information Services team will be updating the application that is used to send security patches and updates to our desktop computers.

With the new application, users will now be alerted when patches are being applied to their PC. A software update notification pop-up window will appear when an update process begins. If the user does not click the "Start Now" button, the updates will automatically install after one minute. If a PC reboot is required after the installation completes, the user will be presented with additional pop-up notices.

The standard update schedule releases patches to desktop computers starting on the third Tuesday of every month. If there is a need to apply an update outside of the schedule, a notice will be sent to alert all users. Due to this change, you may be prompted to reboot more than once depending on the patches that are provided by the software vendors.
