Guthrie will transition to standardized, plain language emergency codes throughout our hospitals and facilities on July 1, 2018. This change is being made at the recommendation of the Guthrie Emergency Preparedness Committee. The use of standardized codes will increase transparency, simplify staff education and retention using simple and practical messaging and promote the safety of patients, staff and visitors.
Please note that color-based codes for medical emergencies within specific departments will not be affected by this change. In the coming months, you will see a series of communications to acquaint you with the new codes, including a crosswalk document with the current color-based codes alongside the new plain language codes. Training on the new codes will be deployed in Guthrie Learn and communicated through Friday Facts, the Guthrie Intranet and Workplace to ensure that all Guthrie team members are prepared for the transition.
If you have any questions, please speak with your manager or visit the Plain Language Codes page on Workplace.
