Homeowners using cisterns, wells and springs for water should get their water tested regularly to be sure that it is safe to drink. Many pollutants in drinking water have no obvious symptoms and approximately 50% of private water systems fail at least one drinking water standard.
You can get your home drinking water tested through Guthrie LEAP Testing Service for total coliform bacteria, the most commonly used indicator of bacterial contamination.
Guthrie employees and their friends and family can receive a special discounted price of $30 (15% discount) in September for total coliform bacteria testing. Just mention this offer.
Pick up a sample collection bottle and instructions at 356 Loder St., Sayre, Pa. Collected samples can be dropped off at the same location or at the LEAP Testing Service Office, 5th Floor of the Foundation Building on the Guthrie Sayre Campus.
Payment is due when the sample is submitted. Results will not be released without payment. For information on obtaining a test kit, visit www.guthrie.org/submitting-water-testing or call 570-887-4645.
